Educo Africa’s core aim is to build active citizenship amongst South Africa’s youth. We use wilderness based experiential methodology as a tool to build the self esteem of our beneficiaries and to make them aware of the skills and potential they have to contribute positively to their family, community and country. Combining outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing, team initiavites, navigational and leadership experience with the reflective processes of storytelling, journalling, overnight solo’s and individual and group mirroring and feedback, results in an experience that is deeply impactful. The learning and personal development from these expereinces are then transferred back into the long term projects in which the youth are based.
Our three main projects focus on the following sectors:
The journey through the wilderness/Nature mirrors our journey through life. We encourage participants on our programmes to push their personal boundaries, discover their inner strength and face their challenges, both physical and emotional.
Tolerance, self-belief/worth, communication, generosity, independence, mastery and a sense of belonging are elements that are enhanced through participating on our courses.
We also offer Corporate Team Development programmes and international programmes. They are tailor-made to suit the needs of the client. The fees of our corporate and international programmes are folded back into the organization to help financially support programmes for low income communities.
CAPACITY BUILDING:
Educo Africa is able to offer aspects of capacity building to all its clients across various sectors, e.g. HIV/AIDS and Child & Youth Care sectors, NGO’s and CBO’S etc. Capacity building is one of our key areas of focus – we enable organizations to develop into their fullest potential and, subsequently, enable them to become cutting-edge service providers in their various fields.
